abaca
This is nature's strongest fiber.
The abaca fiber in our PYRATEX® musa family, fabrics developed in collaboration with NEMUSA, comes from a species of banana tree which grows naturally in the Philippines.
This wildly grown plant is often collected by small groups of local farmers. It is sturdy and self- sufficient, requiring no pesticides or extra water to grow.
The fiber itself is compostable and biodegradable. One of abaca's most important properties is its high tensile strength: it is long lasting compared to other known fibers.
