NETTLE

PYRATEX® element 1 is a breathable and durable single jersey that is made from nettle grown in the mountain forests of the Himalayas blended with organic cotton. The process of growing nettle fibers has a low impact on the environment because the plant doesn't require water irrigation or pesticides. Additionally, the cultivation of nettle involves regenerative farming techniques that ensure soil fertility and nutrition thereby contributing to local species diversity. The fiber is extracted from the tough and tall nettle stalk and is processed mechanically.

Besides the environmental benefits, nettle production also has a positive social impact, providing an additional income to local farmers, who in this case are often women. They have traditionally played a strong role in the development of nettle fiber production, making them the economic decision-makers and nurturers of local communities.
